A development of the 20hp -- the first 'small' Rolls-Royce -- the 20/25hp debuted in 1929, early chassis, apart from an enlarged and much revised engine, being identical to those of the final 20s. Thus the 20/25 inherited the right-hand gearchange lever and servo-assisted brakes introduced on its predecessor for 1926, as well as Phantom-style vertical radiator shutters. Produced concurrently with the Phantom II, the 20/25 benefited from many of the larger model's improvements, such as synchromesh gears and centralised chassis lubrication, becoming the best-selling Rolls-Royce model of the inter-war period. Off test on 5th November 1934, Rolls-Royce 20/25 chassis number ‘GAF19’ was sold new to one C W Tavender and first registered ‘AYB 240’. In 1936 the car passed into the ownership of Lord Sandford and been in the possession of the Sandford and Beer families (which are related) for some 47 years. Lord Sandford kept the car until 1951 when it passed to RREC founder member Dr A S Beer, who owned it until 1967. His son - the present owner - acquired the vehicle in 1978. Always cherished and well maintained, ‘AYB 240’ underwent major restoration, beginning in 1988 and concluded in 1993, under the supervision of the late Roy Crouch. The car is very well known in RREC circles, participating in numerous Club tours and regularly winning prizes at the Annual Rally. Finished in velvet green with brown leather interior, it is presented in excellent condition in every respect and offered with restoration invoices, old-style logbook, original handbook, current road fund licence/MoT certificate and Swansea V5 registration document.
