Beschreibung:

Writing of the new 20hp Rolls-Royce in The Motor of 3rd July 1923, their correspondent reported:- “Three characteristics are outstanding. One is responsiveness, the other quietness and a third is a distant sense of breeding that accompanies its every action. There is a silkiness about the suspension and an elasticity of the engine that need experiencing before they can be believed.” The 20hp was a mechanical jewel which broadened the company’s customer base, finding almost 3,000 customers during its eight year production run. GLK9 came off test in December 1924 and was delivered in March 1925 to The Stour Valley Motor Co. Ltd. of Stourbridge for their esteemed customer J Child Hill. An old buff log book with the car records ownership in 1947 by Doctor K C Edwards of Suffolk who acquired the car in 1928 and retained it until June 1967. The car has had just two owners, including the present owner, in the past 31 years. The Coupé Cabriolet coachwork by Barkers is perhaps the most elegant in this style that we have seen, with a particularly slim hoodline ensuring a light interior. It is liveried in dark blue, its original colour, and upholstered in deep-buttoned red leather. The car is equipped with nickel fittings, Lucas lighting, early-type centre-change gearbox, boa constrictor bulb horn, provision for side or rear-mounted spare wheel, three-piece opening windscreen and comes with period grease gun and wheel spanner. Three steps provide access to the spacious rear dickey seat. GLK9 comes from a small private collection where it has been carefully maintained but used only sparingly. It is offered with a quantity of old MoTs and tax discs, buff and green log books, current MoT certificate, Swansea V5C registration document, an original instruction book and copy Factory Build and Order Sheets. A most practical and snug vintage motor car, eligible of course for the renowned touring events organised by the 20hp Register.
