New Hudson production began as early as 1909 at Parade Mills, Birmingham, the industrial Midlands being the heart of the infant British motorcycle industry. Although less well-remembered for an illustrious competition history, New Hudson achieved many Brooklands successes and records, recruiting such celebrities as Bert Le Vack, Jimmy Guthrie and Fred Hutton to ride their machines. The 1923 sales catalogue listed four stylish combinations for that year, the Standard version selling for £112. Curiously the 1924 catalogue saw substantial price reductions and the 87 x 100mm, 594cc model "upgraded" from "Four-point-five" nomenclature to 5.9hp. All very aggressive marketing. This machine is particularly well presented and has been the subject of extensive restoration while in the Geeson Collection. Photographs show the machine prior to restoration and it is believed it was last used in 1927. The single seat sidecar features a small boot and was reupholstered superbly by Antique Automobiles at Baston in brown leather-cloth. The outfit is equipped with front and rear acetylene lighting, new leather pannier and a bulb horn. It is traditionally liveried in black with brown tank panels, correct lettering and transfers. First registered in March 1923, it comes with old style buff log book from 1925 to 1927, Swansea V5 document and copies of part of a 1923 sales brochure and photocopy instruction book.
