The author, William A. Joiner was a graduate of Wilberforce and the Law Department at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he was Director of Training School for seven years until he returned to Wilberforce in 1910 as Superintendent of the new Normal and Industrial Department. Anderson, who inscribed the book, was also a Wilberforce alumnus, grandson of an African Methodist Episcopal Bishop and a prominent businessman in the city of Wilberforce.
