1948/49. Aquarellierte Lithographie auf schwerem Velin teinté. U.r. sign. U.l. bez. «essai pour la couleur» und sign. von Louis Grosclaude, unter dem die Kolorierung mittels Pochoir für die spätere Ausgabe hergestellt wurde. Verso auf der Rahmenrückwand ein gedrucktes Etikett der Galerie + Verlag Aras, Saulgau/Ravensburg, typographisch bez. mit den Angaben zum Werk.

Das komplette Portfolio besteht aus insgesamt 15 Lithographien von Fernand Léger darunter 13 in Pochoirtechnik koloriert, zu Gedichten von Arthur Rimbaud. Herausgegeben von Louis Grosclaude bei den Editions des Gaules, Lausanne. Lithographien gedruckt bei Roth & Sauter, Lausanne. Pochoirkolorierungen unter der Direktion von Louis Grosclaude.
Vor dem Erscheinen des Portfolios im Jahr 1949 - insgesamt wurden 395 Exemplare gedruckt - wurden Versuche zur Pochoirkolorierung durch Louis Grosclaude durchgeführt. Die vorliegende Arbeit dokumentiert diesen Entstehungsprozess. Bis zuletzt experimentierten Künstler und Drucker mit Farbauftrag und Techniken, so dass sich in den publizierten Exemplaren zahlreiche voneinander in Opazität abweichende Kolorierungen finden, teils mit Farbauftrag in Form von Pochoir und teils von Hand. Beim vorliegenden Blatt finden sich sowohl Exemplare mit einer in Farbzonen zersplitterten Hintergrundkolorierung also auch solche mit durchgehender Färbung.

Zustandsbericht:
Guter Gesamteindruck. Am oberen Rand auf Unterlagekarton montiert. Blatt gleichmäßig leicht gebräunt sowie mit wenigen schwachen Braunflecken (ca. 1 bis 4 mm), o.l und o.r. zwei nach verso durchschlagende Montierungsspuren. Das Werk wurde nicht ausgerahmt.

Inscribed «essai pour la couleur» lower left and signed by Louis Grosclaude, who produced the colouring by means of pochoir (stencils) for the later edition. Verso on the backboard a printed label from the Galerie + Verlag ARAS, Saulgau/Ravensburg typographically inscribed with the work's data.

Before the portfolio was published in 1949 - a total of 395 copies were printed - Louis Grosclaude carried out attempts to add colour through pochoir technique. This work documents this development process Until the end, artist and printer experimented with colour application and techniques, so that in the published copies there are numerous colourings that deviate from each other in opacity, partly with colour application in the form of pochoir and partly by hand. In the case of the present sheet, there are copies with background colouring fragmented into colour zones as well as those with continuous colouring.

Condition report:
Good overall impression. Mounted on backing cardboard at the upper margin. Sheet slightly evenly browned as well as faint brownish spots (approx. 1 to 4 mm), two traces of mounting pushing through to recto upper left and upper right. The work was not unframed.
