1862-1973, a valuable and extensive collection originally housed in ten volumes and formed by a former President of the Royal Philatelic Society. The scope of the collection is wide and encompasses proofs, unused with blocks, used including much of cancellation interest and covers with many scarce and interesting frankings; many of the most important or contentious items are accormpanied by Royal Philatelic Societys certificates. The collection includes 1862 2c. die proof in black on card (48x148mm.), 5c. cut-down die proof in orange also plate proofs (9), perforated trials (2) and overprinted "SPECIMEN" (2) all with certificates, issued with 2c. unused blocks of 40 and 16 (cert.), 1869-73 perf. 12 with colour trials (imperf.) (43) some possibly reprints, issued with a range of cancellations, 25c. green on 1874 (July) envelope to Scotland via Panama cancelled by handstruck "3/-" and "STRATHCARRON" arrival c.d.s., a rare and remarkable item (cert.) and reprints in half sheets of 50, the 1890-99 "Seebeck" issues include proofs, notably a fine series of six die proofs (2 composite) of the 1895 issue, used with high face values and perforation varieties the 1901 - 11 overprints and surcharges are very well represented with blocks, errors, varieties and covers including scarce high value frankings and later issues to 1936 carry on in the same vein with particular strength in covers, (some with address cut out) issues from 1936 to 1973 are, fairly complete unused, Official stamps are dealt with separately and are again notable for the many covers present, of particular interest is the remarkable section devoted to Zelaya issues which includes "B" overprint on 1905 6c. six examples on envelope to New York, (the value is unrecorded by Gibbons and Scott). The collection has been to a greater or lesser degree affected by flood water and the majority of unused items are stuck by their gum to the album pages and other damage such as staining has occurred, however, we believe that the majority of affected items (except those printed in fugitive ink) are salvageable, with careful treatment
