(Islamic & Indian Art, 16th April 2021) λ AN IVORY MINIATURE OF THE QAJAR CROWN PRINCE 'ABBAS MIRZA (1789-1833) Possibly Iran or India, first half 19th century λ AN IVORY MINIATURE OF THE QAJAR CROWN PRINCE 'ABBAS MIRZA (1789-1833) Possibly Iran or India, first half 19th century Opaque pigments on ivory, the vertical portrait depicting the young crown prince 'Abbas Mirza, Fath 'Ali Shah's son, sitting on his knees in a Qajar palatial interior, wearing a bright red ceremonial robe with full-length sleeves, jewelled epaulettes, armbands (bazuband), cuffs and encrusted belt, an encrusted and enamelled sword lying on his lap, his headdress made of black Astrakhan fur and set with pearls, diamonds and a feathery aigrette in the centre, lush and verdant trees and bright blue sky to the background, mounted, glazed and framed, 8cm x 5.4cm excluding the frame.
