The surface is under an uneven and dirty varnish, but for the most part, the retention of the paint appears to be quite good. There is a vertical panel fissure running from the top of the panel down to the middle of his chest, as well as a number of small losses on the surface, as visible in the photograph. In the forehead above the eye at right, there appears to be an old spot of restoration, as well as some restoration near the fissure. Around the edges at the top and left, there is modern gold paint, which appears to have come from a modern framing element. Under UV, very little is visible through the dirty varnish. Offered unframed. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The
