His practice maintains a thin and balanced line between landscape and figure, superimposing photographic imagery and memories, both real and imagined. Born in Scotland, raised in Canada and now based in Trinidad, Doig is well-versed in overlaying the aesthetics of the diverse cultures that have shaped his career. As a nod to abstraction as well as the concreteness of his settings, Doig allows the texture of painting to manipulate the images he uses and amplify the visual impact of these scenes.
