A selection of mostly decorative and armorial bookplates from the library of Audrey Arellanes, who ran the American Society of Bookplate Collectors and Designers for 30 years. Includes plates from authors, politicians, various libraries, etc. All plates are mounted to detached book covers. Includes: E. Agnew. [P.B.?] Duncan. Erasmus Hall Library. Located in the Flatbush neighborhood of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. It was founded in 1786 as Erasmus Hall Academy, a private institution of higher learning named for the scholar Desiderius Erasmus J.S.J. Gardiner. John Sylvester John Gardiner, aka John S. J. Gardiner (1765-1830), was an American Episcopal priest. He was Rector of Trinity Church, Boston, Massachusetts, president of Boston's Anthology Club, and active in the Boston Athenæum. Dorothy Sturgis Harding. A graphic designer and known for her bookplate designs. Harvard University, designed by Nathaniel Hurd Archibald McNeill. Congressional Representative from North Carolina; member of the State House of Commons in 1808 and 1809; served in the State senate 1811-1813, 1820, and 1821. William Madison Peyton. A a Virginia lawyer, politician and slave owner who began developing what would become the coal country of Virginia and West Virginia in the 1840s. New York Tribune. Queen's College, Bellfast. John Schingler. Robert Neilson Stephens. American novelist and playwright.
