John Lloyd Wright (1892-1972) Room Screen, Michigan City, Indiana, c. 1945, four identical panels, each with an upper section of frosted glass and cane, lower section with four open squares, all in "blonde" mahogany frames set on rectangular feet, unmarked, ht. 72 1/2, wd. 22 3/4, dp. 1 1/4 in. Provenance: This piece was made for Jack M. Ruby, founder of Hoosier Factories (later Jaymar-Ruby Inc.),of Michigan City, Indiana. A successful clothing manufacturer, he commissioned Wright to build his home and decorate his office. The screen and accompanying desk descended in the Ruby family until given to the present owner. Note: John Lloyd Wright was the second son of the famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright with whom he had a troubled relationship. His practice was almost entirely residential, in the Prairie and Bauhaus styles, chiefly in Indiana and California. Today he is best known as the inventor of Lincoln Logs.
