LOTS 96-102 Guy Taplin Renowned sculptor, Taplin, began whittling his sculptures of birds in the 1960s while working as bird keeper in Regent’s Park. He uses driftwood which he forages for along the coasts and estuaries of the Essex coast near his, home in Wivenhoe. His sculptures are each uniquely crafted, the design inspired by the features of the found wood. The elongated forms are graceful and harmonious; the wood painted, yet not so overworked that the history and character of the wood, is lost. It is this authenticity that is unique to Taplin and why his works are so sought after by collectors today. *Guy Taplin (b.1939) KINGFISHER IN FLIGHT Signed, titled, dated 1999 and inscribed 'WITHENHOE' on the underside, carved and, painted driftwood 23cm high *Artist's Resale Right may apply to this lot.
