A mahogany cased two-day marine chronometer, Thomas Mercer, St Albans, mid 20th century The circular four pillar single chain fusee movement with Harrison's maintaining power, Earnshaw type spring detent escapement and split bimetallic balance with cylindrical compensating weights and helical palladium balance spring, the spotted backplate with spring set-up ratchet and blued-steel pillar and backcock securing screws, the reverse of the dial mounting plate stamped 25754, the 4 inch circular silvered Roman numeral dial with subsidiary seconds dial engraved with repeat number 25754 beneath signature Thomas Mercer and state of wind dial annotated DOWN/UP to centre, the lower margin further inscribed THOMAS MERCER LTD, ST. ALBANS, ENGLAND, secured by a screw-down bezel into a gilt painted brass bowl with shuttered winding hole to rear, mounted via gimbals into a mahogany two tier box with glazed panel to lid above rectangular brass plate inscribed C.L. MALMSJO, SODRA HAMNGATAN, GOTEBORG applied to the front, 18.5cm (7.25ins) wide; with a modern mahogany cased quartz marine chronometer, the dial signed for Hamilton, circa 1980, with a single AA cell powered quartz centre-seconds movement and 3.75 inch circular silvered Arabic numeral dial inscribed HAMILTON, electronic QUARTZ to centre over BRASS CASE SWISS, MOVEMENT WEST GERMANY to lower margin, set within a brass bowl fitted with internal canted bezel behind fixed convex plexiglass, mounted via brass gimbals into a three-tier mahogany case with brass capped corners to lid over front applied with brass retailers plate inscribed B. COOKE & SON LTD., HULL, NO. 288, the sides with brass handles, with rating certificate issued by B. Cooke of Hull dated13/10/1987 and a guarantee certificate, 17cm (6.75ins) wide, (2).
